Nepali Congress demands formation of judicial commission on Dewangunj-Kaptanganj incident

A meeting of the NC Central Working Committee held on Tuesday demanded the government to form a high-level all-acceptable commission for an impartial, independent and credible investigation into the incident.

The NC has said that the commission which was formed only by the government mechanism earlier had expressed apprehension that it would hide the government’s shortcomings and now time has proved this apprehension right.

The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC

) has expressed concern over the government’s disregard for the health condition of Binay Yadav, who has been staging a hunger strike for the past 12 days demanding an impartial investigation into the incident and implementation of the agreement.

The Nepali Congress has claimed that innocent civilians have lost their lives due to state repression in Dewangunj-Kaptangunj and other areas as well as heavy losses due to arson and vandalism of private property.

Stating that the local community is angry over the government’s failure to implement the agreement reached with the victims, the NC has demanded the government to immediately implement the agreement.

Likewise, the NC has demanded the immediate implementation of the agreements the government has made with doctors, nurses, health workers, civil servants, relief teachers, transport entrepreneurs, dairy and sugarcane farmers, meter interest victims, among others. The NC has concluded that the tendency of the government to agree time and again but not implement it honestly has increased the distrust towards the government.

“Such a situation has increased frustration in the society and weakened the belief that the state is the guardian of the citizens,” the party said.

The members of the Congress Central Working Committee (CWC) are continuing to put forth their views in the meeting.
