Bhairahawa. Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) is preparing to set up its operating base at Gautam Buddha International Airport. As per the directive of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, NAC has started the flight training from Tuesday in preparation to develop Gautam Buddha International Airport as its operating base.
According to the corporation, its first officers (pilots) are going to be operated by Airbus 320 aircraft for base training flights.
The training programme will run from August 11 to August 19. Issuing a press release today, Engineer Kumar Sujakhu, spokesperson of the Civil Aviation Office of Gautam Buddha International Airport, informed all stakeholders about the training flights being operated at the airport.
Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has already listed Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa as an alternative airport.
Acting General Manager of the airport, Shyam Kishor Sah, said that the decision was made to use Gautam Buddha International Airport, Bhairahawa as an alternative airport in case the NAC’s aircraft have to be diverted for any reason.
Bhairahawa Airport which was started in 2021 BS from Ghase Air Ground, has been operating from its current location as domestic airport in 2023 BS.
The then Prime Minister Sushil Koirala had laid the foundation stone for the international airport on January 15, 2014 and the then Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba had inaugurated the airport on May 15, 2022.
The Gautam Buddha International Airport is spread over 800 bighas of land and has a runway of 3 kilometers.
There are fire engines of the ninth category at the airport. It can accommodate up to 5 international aircraft, including 4 narrow-body and 1 wide-body, which can take off and land at Tribhuvan International Airport.
