Kathmandu. Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Khagendra Sunar has demanded the government to form a probe committee to investigate into the alleged irregularities in the procurement process of Nepal Police during the last elections.
Speaking at a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Federal Parliament on Wednesday, Sunar claimed that a fair investigation could not be carried out by keeping the Inspector General of Police (IGP) in the post. He demanded that an investigation committee be formed immediately and the accused persons should be absolved of responsibility.
He said that the then Home Minister, Home Secretary and Inspector General of Police should be removed from their responsibilities and an impartial investigation should be conducted.
He said, “An investigation committee should be formed immediately. While that committee is being formed, the accused people do not have the right to be in that responsibility. It should be absolved of responsibility and investigated fairly. The then Home Minister, Home Secretary and Inspector General of Police should be immediately sacked from their responsibilities and brought out and put in the dock to investigate the matter. “
Sunar said that the allegations against him could not be investigated while sitting in the uniform of the police.
‘There is no investigation by wearing a uniform. You can’t put on a uniform and say, “Look, investigate me.” Just as the police investigate others, the same should be done in this case. Criminal charges should be investigated,” he said.
Raising serious questions over the alleged irregularities in the purchase of election police uniforms, he said action should be taken against the person found guilty. A complaint was lodged at the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) claiming that around
Rs 600 million was embezzled in the purchase of uniforms for the election held on March 4. At a time when the committee was discussing the issue, lawmaker Sunar demanded the government to form an investigation committee immediately.
