7 killed, 5 missing in Rolpa landslide

Issuing a press release, RSP General Secretary Bipin Kumar Acharya expressed condolences to the bereaved family members.

He wished for the speedy recovery of the injured and urged the government for effective search and rescue of the misined people. 

“We express our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members by paying heartfelt tribute to those who lost their lives untimely in this calamity. We wish for the speedy recovery of the injured and draw the government’s serious attention to the effective search for the missing.” 

Stating that floods and landslides in Rolpa and other parts of the country in the last 24 hours have caused a huge loss, the state’s role in disaster management should not be limited only to rescue operations, the statement reads.

The RSP has urged the federal, state and local governments to make early warning system effective for disaster risk reduction, identify vulnerable settlements and relocate them safely and make arrangements for immediate rescue, relief and free treatment in the affected areas.

The statement reads, “The government of the Rastriya Swatantra Party should become more responsible and accountable in disaster risk reduction by learning from the old traditional and lax working style of the state machinery that always fails in preparedness only after the disaster strikes.” The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has appealed to the citizens not to travel except for essential purposes and to adopt special precaution on the river banks and in the landslide-prone areas, saying the road network and settlements are at risk due to incessant rainfall.

Stating that the state should stand as the guardian of the citizens in times of disaster, the party has urged the party mechanism to be ready round the clock to assist the state mechanism in disaster preparedness and rescue and relief operations.
