Paswan dies in holding center, family demands impartial investigation
Kathmandu Hiralal Paswan, 57, was found hanging at a holding centre in Bode in Bhaktapur on Thursday.
According to the family, Paswan was found hanging from the back window when the door of the room did not open when he went to call him for dinner.
According to the daughter-in-law of the deceased, Paswan was found dead when he went to call him for dinner at around 10 am.
She said, “I went to call at about 10 o’clock during dinner and didn’t open the door.
I opened the window from behind and saw that there was no man. According to the family, Paswan did not have any serious problems before. According to her daughter-in-law, she is tense after the government demolished her house to vacate the squatters. She was suffering from high blood pressure after the house collapsed, due to which both her eyes were affected, her daughter-in-law said. According to him, Paswan had been regularly taking blood pressure medicine after he was treated by the metropolis.
They say that they do not have any land in their name and are forced to live in the holding center after the house was demolished.
According to the family members of the deceased, Paswan had been complaining time and again that their names were not included in the list related to rehabilitation and management.
‘We don’t have any real estate. Everyone’s name came up, he used to talk about why we didn’t come. They said that our names were not heard and our names were nowhere to be heard,” she said.
The family has expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of interest of the concerned authorities in the incident of Paswan’s death. They have demanded that representatives of the government agencies responsible for bringing them to the holding center should come to understand the incident and talk to the family.
‘Our stance is that father committed suicide, now the government who brought us here should come. They had to come to inquire about the incident,” she said, adding, “From 10 am to 6 pm, no one came.” What kind of state is this, what is it trying to do?”
The family has also questioned that the incident was being solved only by retrieving the body.
‘He who came came to say that he would take the body out of the top and take it away. Once you take it out of the top, it’s over, nothing happens to us. Who will listen to us?” she said.
Paswan’s family has said that although they have hope and faith in the leadership of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, they are disappointed after the incident.
“It was hope and confidence in the Balen government,” she said.
The family has demanded an impartial investigation into the cause of Paswan’s death, listen to their problems and make proper arrangements for the families displaced after the demolition of their houses
