. Annapurna Kunwar, the first woman parajamper of the Nepal Army, has said that the Nepal Army should not be criticized for not playing its role in the time of crisis as it is mobilized only as per the law, rules and orders.
Speaking at a press meet organized on ‘Duty of retired army to strengthen relations between Nepal Army and civilians’, Kunwar said that the Nepal Army is a disciplined institution and it cannot move ahead on its own unless orders and briefing are issued by the concerned bodies.
‘A disciplined person never goes beyond his own rules. Whatever has happened in the country now, it has been reported in the media that the Nepal Army did not do this, did not do that. Nepal Army is a disciplined organization,” she said.
She said that there is a definite legal process for the mobilization of the army, adding that in normal circumstances, the police would be responsible for maintaining peace and security.
‘Unless the organization is ordered, there is no briefing, the army will not move forward. It’s all the work of the police. The police do such things,” Kunwar said.
According to him, there is a legal provision that the Nepal Army will be mobilized only after receiving an order from the President in a situation of serious crisis in the country.
According to him, the army cannot be accused of not playing its role during the crisis as the army is mobilized as per the same provision.
She said, “There is a rule and law that the army will be mobilized only after a very emergency situation comes in the country and an order comes from the President.”
Just because the army is in that law, it cannot be said that the army did not do this. Kunwar said that the Nepal Army Association has also been working in the spirit of dignity and patriotism. She stressed the need for all to understand the organizational discipline and dignity of the Nepal Army.
