23 people rescued by air

Kathmandu. Air and ground search and rescue operations have been intensified in the flood-affected areas of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Chitwan and Nawalparasi East. The Nepal Army has rescued 23 people by air till 11 am today.

A joint team comprising national and foreign experts has been mobilized to search and rescue people trapped in the tunnel of the hydropower project following the floods. The rescue team at Chilime Hydro entered the tunnel some 50 meters into the tunnel and searched for it. Similarly, the search and

rescue operation is underway by entering the tunnel up to 150 meters in Langtang Hydro and around 200 meters in Upper Trishuli-1 Hydro.

Tunnel head has been found in Trishuli-3 ‘A’ project. The work of sending air through a compressor inside the tunnel is going on and the work of draining water is also going on. The alternate passage at the back of the tunnel has been opened by about 15 meters using three excavators.

Earlier, 279 people were rescued alive from various hydropower projects in the immediate rescue after the floods. Two people were rescued from Rasuwagadhi, 33 from Upper Trishuli-1, 221 from Upper Trishuli-3 ‘A’, 2 from Upper Trishuli-3 ‘B’, 9 from Mailung, 4 from Nuwakot Solar Power Project, 3 from Trishuli Hydropower Project and 5 from Devghat Hydropower Project.
