Kathmandu. China has warned that glaciers in the vicinity of Nepal’s Chochen River could still fall. The glaciers around the impact crater in Nepal’s Chochen River are still in an unstable state, posing a big risk, according to China’s Ministry of Water Resources.
According to Chinese media CCTV News, the ministry is continuing to consult and monitor all risks related to the mudslide flood disaster in Gyirong (Kerung) county of southwest China’s Xizang (Tibet) Autonomous Region.
Recent remote-sensing analysis shows that 14 glacial lakes in the Gyirong Tsangpo river basin are in stable conditions, but there is still a risk of glacier collapse around the crater in the Chochen area.
According to photos taken by the drone on Tuesday morning, most of the water collected in the crater has been drained and the river flow in the lower reaches is normal. However, the report states that the area should still be put on high alert due to the risk of a possible avalanche or glacier breaking.
