Kathmandu. Indian film actor and social worker Sonu Sood has arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday to help in the relief and rehabilitation of the people affected by the recent floods and inundations in Nepal.
He has come to Nepal to raise humanitarian aid in collaboration with Lions Clubs International and ‘Khalsa Aid’. Speaking at a press conference held after arriving in Kathmandu, actor Sood appealed to the communities scattered around the world to help Nepal in this difficult time of disaster. He also proposed the ‘Resolve to Build a House’ campaign for the construction of houses for the people who have become homeless due to the floods. Recalling that his organization had constructed 257 houses in the wake of the floods in Punjab, India, in the past, he said that the construction of houses would be started in the identified places in Nepal as well.
“Nepal is going through a very difficult time right now. It is the humanitarian responsibility of all of us to come forward and help as much as possible at this time,” Sood said, “Instead of sending help from afar, the impact of being present in person and holding the hands of the victims and reassuring them that we are with you is huge. I am not only here to help, but to fulfill my responsibility.” According to Sood, a joint team of his organization ‘Sood Charity Foundation’, Lions Club and Khalsa Aid is visiting the site to identify the real need.
According to him, two thousand blankets, clothes, dry food and women’s health materials have been sent to Nepal from India. He said that he would make a long-term support plan to resolve the problems related to education, health and housing by making on-site visits to flood-affected areas including Nuwakot. Appreciating the self-confidence and hardworking nature of Nepali citizens, he said that most of the people who have worked with him in Mumbai for the last 25-30 years are Nepalis. He said that the patience and smile shown by Nepalis even in the midst of big disasters has motivated him further. Meanwhile, actor Sood expressed concern over climate change and environmental imbalance. Stating that such disasters are increasing all over the world due to exploitation of nature and deforestation, he stressed that for the protection of future generations, we should be serious about the conservation of nature now.
