IPPAN contributes Rs 13 0.1 million to relief fund, structures of 12 projects have been destroyed
Kathmandu. Due to the disaster in the Bhotkoshi River, 12 structures of 12 electricity projects have been destroyed with eight in operation and four under construction.
The Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal (IPPAN) has said that the structures of the hydropower and transmission system built with billions of rupees of investment, years of hard work and modern technology have been swept away by the floods in a few moments. IPPAN has expressed sorrow over the loss of skilled engineers, technicians, experts, experts and workers working in the energy sector along with the damage to hydropower projects and physical infrastructures. According to a press release issued by IPPAN General Secretary TN Acharya, the independent power producers are now reeling under a painful situation where the physical infrastructure can be rebuilt, investment can be rebuilt, but the lost lives and the parents of the families cannot be restored with any amount. The 206th Emergency Working Committee meeting of IPPAN on August 28, 2083 decided to provide financial support to the Prime Minister Natural Disaster Relief Fund (PMLF) and appealed to the hydropower companies associated with IPPAN to provide financial support to the people of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and other districts affected by the Bhotekoshi disaster. IPPAN affiliated companies have collected Rs 130.1 million for the rescue, rehabilitation and reconstruction of the people affected by the devastating avalanche and handed over to the Prime Minister Natural Disaster Relief Fund, Acharya said in the statement. IPPAN and IPPAN affiliated companies have provided financial assistance ranging from Rs 50,
000 to Rs 1.65 crore for rescue, reconstruction and rehabilitation of the flood-affected people.
IPPAN Chairman Mohan Kumar Dangi handed over the assistance amount to Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha amidst a program organized at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation in Singha Durbar on Tuesday. The amount was collected with the help of power developers and power companies affiliated with IPPAN. On the occasion, representatives of power developers and power companies affiliated to IPPAN also presented cheques and vouchers to Minister Shrestha. Handing over the financial assistance, IPPAN President Dangi said that IPPAN and the associated power companies have provided generous support to the affected people even when the private sector projects themselves suffered huge losses due to the Bhotekoshi disaster. Receiving the financial assistance amount, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha said the government was collaborating with the private sector in the rescue, rehabilitation and reconstruction works following the Bhotekoshi disaster. Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Sarita Duwadi, said that IPPAN will help the government in the reconstruction work to be carried out by the government.
