Govt decides to observe ‘Genji Martyrs’ Day’ on September 23

Kathmandu. The cabinet meeting held on Thursday decided to observe September 23 as ‘Jenji Martyrs’ Day’ and declared a public holiday. The government has also decided to observe a national mourning in honour of those who lost their lives in the floods.

The government has decided to observe a national mourning on Monday on the 13th day of the death anniversary of those who lost their lives in the Rasuwa floods, said government spokesperson Sasmit Pokharel.

These are the decisions of the Council of Ministers:

} 1. To accept the grant assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to be received from the Asian Development Bank for the life saving of the people affected by the floods and for immediate emergency rescue and relief work.

2. Provide relief, taxes, tariffs and other concessions and other facilities under the Integrated Business Rehabilitation Plan to the people, industries, businesses and businesses affected by the flood in the Bhotekoshi River of Rasuwa.

Permission to import 25,000 metric tons of sugar through Salt Trading Corporation Limited and Food Management and Trading Company Limited at 1% customs duty.

4. Provide risk allowance, lunch allowance, free medical treatment in case of injury and Rs 1 million each to the family of the deceased in case of death.

5. To give a public holiday throughout the state of Nepal on the occasion of Jenji Martyrs Day on September 9, 2083.

6. To observe national mourning on Monday, September 6, 2008, the death anniversary of the 13th day of the incident, as a mark of respect to the people who lost their lives due to the unimaginably severe flood in the Bhotekoshi River on the Nepal-China border on September 22, 2008. On this day, the Nepali flag will be flown at half-mast at government offices across Nepal and Nepali embassies and missions abroad.

7. To promote Narayan Prasad Bhatta to the post of Secretary of the Gazetted Special Class towards Nepal Administrative Service Grouping and to the post of Chief Secretary of the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, Koshi Province.
