Government at all levels is responsible for building a human trafficking and trafficking free society
Kathmandu. Prime Minister Balendra Shah has said that cooperation among all stakeholders including federal, provincial and local levels is necessary to build a human trafficking and trafficking free society.
In a message of best wishes on the occasion of the 20th National Day against Human Trafficking, Prime Minister Shah said human trafficking is a blot on human civilization and is spreading across the globe as organized crime.
The day is being celebrated with the slogan ‘Proper use and awareness of technology: Solidarity in building a nation free from human trafficking’. Prime Minister Shah said that with the development of technology, the trend, nature, form and destination of human trafficking are also changing.
He said that the Government of Nepal has been making policy and institutional reforms in line with national and international commitments to prevent and control human trafficking and smuggling. For this, various initiatives are being taken in coordination and cooperation with all the concerned stakeholders, he said.
According to Prime Minister Shah, a bill to amend the Human Trafficking and Transportation (Control) Act, 2064 to conform to the Palermo Protocol has been registered in the parliament.
It is expected to enhance cooperation and coordination among States for the protection of human rights of victims of human trafficking and trafficking at the international level.
The Prime Minister also said that the policy against human trafficking has been formulated and implemented in order to make the existing legal and institutional mechanism in line with the federal structure. He stressed the need of cooperation among the provincial government, local government, national and international non-governmental organizations, development partners and other stakeholders in the campaign against human trafficking. “Creating a human trafficking-free society will be possible only through our joint initiatives and joint efforts,” he said in the message. He also thanked all for their continued support, coordination and cooperation in the campaign of the Government of Nepal against human trafficking and urged for their support, cooperation and solidarity in the government’s commitment.
