Kathmandu Reds and Sagarmatha Smashers win NVL title

Kathmandu Reds defeated Madhesh Warriors 3-2 in a competitive match held at the National Sports Council Covered Hall in Tripureshwor on Saturday. In their first match, Kathmandu won 20-25, 26-24, 25-17, 22-25 and 16-14. This is Madhes’ second consecutive defeat in two matches. In the first match, Madhesh lost to Sagarmatha Smashers 25-21, 25-21, 23-25, 25-21. Ahmed Mustafa Khan of Kathmandu Reds was declared the ‘Man of the Match’.

In the next match, Sagarmatha defeated Khaptad Falcons in straight sets 3-0. Sagarmatha won the first and second sets 25-18. Everest won the third set 25-19. This was the second consecutive win of Everest in two matches. In the first match, Sagarmatha defeated Madhes 3-1 in a winning start.

Aimal Khan of Everest was adjudged ‘Man of the Match’. Aimal was named ‘Man of the Match’ for the second time in a row. Aimal was also named ‘Man of the Match’ in the match against Madhes.

The tournament will be played on Sunday. The first match will be played between Annapurna Spiker Kings and Kathmandu Reds. The second match will be played between Karnali Shivaraj and Khaptad Falcons.

A total of 6 men’s teams are participating in the tournament organized by Kedia Group with the support of Nepal Volleyball Association. The participating teams will first play on the basis of single round robin league. The team that tops the league will advance to the final.

The top two and third placed teams will advance to the final playoffs.

The total prize money of the Nepal Volleyball League is Rs 32 lakh. This award is the highest ever in the history of Nepali volleyball. The winner will receive a cash prize of Rs 20 lakh.

The final of the tournament, which is being sponsored by Extreme Energy Drink, will be held on September 28. This is the first time that the men’s volleyball franchise league has been held in Nepal.
