Senior Maithili litterateur and critic Dr. Revati Raman Lal passes away

Janakpur. Another stalwart in the field of Maithili literature has passed away. Senior Maithili litterateur and critic Dr. Revatiraman Lal has passed away at the age of 83.

He died at his residence in Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City-11 on Saturday night.

Dr. Lal had been contributing to Maithili literature for a long time. Dr. Lal has written in various genres of literature. Lal has made notable contributions in the field of stories, poems, songs, articles, screenplays, interviews, travelogues and folk literature.

His first published Maithili composition ‘Saraswati Vandana’ song was published in 1960. His famous Maithili works include ‘Interview’, ‘Madhav Nahi Aela Madhupursan’, ‘Hamar Videsh Tour’, ‘Mahakavi Vidyapati’, and ‘Khistha Pihani’.

Similarly, ‘Dhanushadham Aur Manimandap’ is his work on tourism. He was also the editor of the Maithili quarterly magazine ‘Naimikanan’. His various works have also been included in the curriculum of schools and colleges.

He was the recipient of various awards including Vaidehi Talent Award, Trimurti Award, Mithila Ratna, Jyotirishwar Sahitya Samman and Government of Nepal Provincial Talent Award in recognition of his contribution to the literary sector.

Dr. With the death of Lal, Maithili literature has lost an experienced and dedicated writer.

Active in the literary and social fields, Dr. Lal was associated with Vividha Maithili Manch, member of Maithili Sahitya Parishad, and advisor to Maithili literary society.
