Kathmandu. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has said that the search, rescue and relief operations are continuing for the 12th day following the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers of Rasuwa on August 24.
According to the spokesperson of the NRA, Shanti Mahat, the Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, Nepal Police, technical teams and foreign experts are involved in the search and rescue work. Search work has also been continued in the tunnels of various hydropower projects. According to the NRA, the search was carried out for 160 meters in the tunnel of Trishuli-3 ‘A’, 30 meters in Trishuli-3 ‘B’ by helicopter by helicopter, 275 meters in Rasuwagadhi, 150 meters in Langtang and 170 meters in Chilime. Search is underway from tunnel head to tail in Upper Trishuli-1. According to the CAAN, the Chinese team returned after the search conducted through infrared (IR) and thermal drones from the audit-3 of Upper Trishuli-1 did not show any sign of a living person. Ground forces and patrol teams of the Nepal Army have been deployed in various places for search and rescue. Canine teams with trained dogs of the Armed Police Force and Nepal Police are also engaged in the search. Nepal Police is using drones to observe, inspect and collect details of the flood-affected river banks. Tourist police have also been mobilized to rescue foreign tourists and to search for their missing relatives.
Road maintenance and cleaning works are being carried out at various places to ease traffic in the affected areas. The work of installing temporary bridges over Tadi River in Devighat is going on while work is being done to remove the silt accumulated on the road near Thuli Khola on the Galchhi-Devighat road section.
Devighat-Dhunge road section has come into full operation. Repair and cleaning work is going on on the Dhunge-Trishuli section. According to the NEA, 8 kilometers out of 10 kilometers of the Bidur-Betrawati road section have come into operation.
The bodies of 1,342 people who died in the floods have been recovered, according to the NRA. Of these, 98 bodies have been identified and handed over to their families. DNA samples of all the dead bodies are being collected to facilitate the identification of the bodies. It has also been requested to provide DNA samples to the close family members of the contactless persons. The authority has said that arrangements have been made to collect DNA samples of the family members through the concerned district police office.
Efforts are being made to restore normal life in the affected areas by resuming essential services. According to the NRA, communication services have almost resumed in the affected areas and electricity services have also been restored in many places.
The 36th meeting of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Executive Committee was held in the presence of the Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration and Minister for Health and Food Hygiene to review the status of search, rescue and relief work. Likewise, a joint meeting was held between the cluster leads of the thematic government bodies and the teams formed for the post-flood search, rescue and relief coordination, according to the NRA.
