Relief distribution to Rasuwa flood victims on the initiative of Vachan News
Kathmandu. Relief materials have been distributed to the families affected by the floods in the Rasuwa-Bhotekoshi area under the initiative of Vachan News. Food and essential materials were handed over to the flood-affected families in Kathmandu with the motto of ‘News as well as in service’.
Speaking at the relief distribution program, Binod Lama, a member of the victim’s family, said that the floods have lost their main support and the survivors are also living a difficult life due to lack of basic relief and safe shelter. According to Lama, he was in Kathmandu when the floods occurred while his brother-in-law has gone missing from Rasuwagadhi (China border area). His mother-in-law, brother-in-law’s wife and two minor daughters are now in trouble after his father-in-law has already died and is the only earning member of the family.
He complained that effective government relief has not reached the small Tibet market area so far. He said that apart from a single packet of rice from some organization and some sporadic personal help, the victims have not received adequate relief.
He said that many
of the victims have been forced to go hungry as relief materials have not been distributed even though relief materials have been stored in the school in Bogatitar. According to him, 100 to 200 people are spent the night in the same holding center and the scorching heat and the stench emanating from the river has made daily life more difficult.
