Kathmandu. Miraj Dhungana, a Jenji activist, has said that there is a need for an alternative political force and a third pole in the country. <\/p>\n
Speaking at the ‘One Year of the Jenji Movement and the Way Forward’ organized on the occasion of the completion of one year of the Jenji movement, Dhungana claimed that the present government has not been able to feel the expected improvement in the livelihood of the people. He said that if the government cannot instill hope among the citizens, then a nationwide discussion should be started on alternative political forces. <\/p>\n
‘Through the movement, a new government was formed, the friends were elected. But has the country got real change? Has our standard of living improved? Has the price come down? Has the livelihood of the people become easier?” he asked. <\/p>\n
He said that although it would be difficult to evaluate all the achievements immediately as the new government is only five and <\/p>\n
a half to six months after the formation of the new government, he said that the government should show the signs of the coming days. <\/p>\n
“Like the smooth leaves of a plant, the initial achievement should be a sign of the future. But if there is no hope even after half a year, then it is a serious matter,” Dhungana said. <\/p>\n
He said that an environment conducive for the citizens to get employment and opportunities in their own country has not been created.<\/p>\n
He alleged that inflation has increased and livelihood has become difficult. He said that especially housewives and the general public are being affected by inflation. <\/p>\n
Dhungana said that there should be an impartial investigation into the incidents that took place on September 23 and 24 during the Jenji movement. <\/p>\n
If the security mechanism has violated the law and killed innocent citizens, strict action should be taken against the culprits, he said. He also said that the arson and vandalism of Singha Durbar, Parliament House, Supreme Court and other structures during the agitation should also be investigated. <\/p>\n
‘The events of the 24th should not be forgotten. The damage to Singha Durbar, the Supreme Court and the historical monuments should be investigated by flipping through each and every file,” he said. <\/p>\n
He warned that if the incumbent government did not investigate such incidents, an alternative force would investigate into the matter and take action against the guilty. <\/p>\n
Dhungana expressed dissatisfaction saying that efforts were being made to differentiate himself from the Jenji movement. He claimed that they were doing the work of ideas, calls and mobilization for the movement. <\/p>\n
He also refuted accusations that he was an “opportunist” and a “deserter from the movement”. <\/p>\n
‘If I wanted, I could have become a member of parliament or a minister. But I never wanted to be a minister of power,’ he said. <\/p>\n
Stating that he has been earning his life through self-employment and business since the age of 16, Dhungana said that he has no greed for any position or power. <\/p>\n
“I have no greed for position. I want to do something in the country. I don’t want to go abroad,” he said. <\/p>\n
He claimed that he had played an active role in political and social issues in the past as well. He also mentioned that he has been taken into custody over the Lipulek-Kalapani encroachment and MCC among other issues. <\/p>\n
Dhungana also raised questions about the implementation of the agreements made by the government with various groups and individuals. He demanded the government to make public the status of the implementation of the agreements signed with Garima Chaudhary, Ganesh Nepali and Jenji. <\/p>\n
“If the agreement made by the state with the citizens is not implemented, it will only serve to show lollipops to the citizens,” he said. <\/p>\n
He also clarified that there has been no change in the issues and stance raised by him during the agitation. <\/p>\n
Dhungana said that the present government should not be described as ‘Genji’s government’. He described the government as a government of interest groups formed to gain power during the transitional period. <\/p>\n
“This is not Jenji’s government. It is a government of interest groups formed to gain power during the transitional period,” he said. <\/p>\n
He argued that the ruling forces cannot be called new or alternative forces. He alleged that even though they are called new, they are associated with the old political parties and there is no clear idea even though they are called alternative. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
