Lawmaker Ghimire’s question: What is the government’s plan when 20 people commit suicide every day in Nepal? <\/strong> <\/p>\n Kathmandu <\/p>\n National Assembly member Basudev Ghimire has expressed serious concern over the rapidly increasing suicide rate in Nepal and demanded concrete plans from the government to reduce it. <\/p>\n Speaking in the zero hour of the National Assembly meeting on Thursday, lawmaker Ghimire said that the situation of suicide in Nepal was becoming alarming and the state should take special initiative to stop it. Referring to the occasion of September 10 World Suicide Prevention Day, lawmaker Ghimire said that more than 7,000 people commit suicide annually in the country. According to him, on an average, 19 to 20 people are losing their lives every day in Nepal. Stating that the number of suicides is increasing day by day instead of stopping, he demanded the Speaker of the National Assembly to inform the House about the plans and programs made by the government to address such serious social and mental health problems. Similarly, MP Ghimire also expressed deep sorrow over the people who lost their lives due to the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa.
