Kathmandu. According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, the bodies of 1,386 people have been recovered so far in the Bhotekoshi floods and landslides that occurred on August 26. <\/p>\n
NRA Spokesperson Shanti Mahat said that human organs were also included in the bodies found at 5:00 pm on September 10. According to him, the highest number of 364 bodies have been found in Chitwan. 38 bodies have been found in Tanahun and two have died in Kathmandu while undergoing treatment. According to the NRA, 5,130 people are still out of contact after floods and landslides. DNA testing is also underway to identify the deceased. So far, DNA samples have been collected from 1,286 bodies. Similarly, 1,751 DNA samples have been collected from relatives of contactless persons, according to the NRA. <\/p>\n
The Authority has made arrangements to provide DNA samples through the District Police Office of the concerned district. For this, two photos and a sample can be given with documents proving the relationship. <\/p>\n
The NRA has said that it has continued to send food and non-food items to the affected districts through road and air. However, the number of relief materials being sent to the affected districts has decreased in recent times. <\/p>\n
The NRA has said that there is enough stock of relief materials in the affected districts for the time being and some of the relief materials have been stopped and will be sent again if needed. To make the relief distribution transparent, the NRA has introduced a tracking system on the ‘Setu’ app. Through this system, the details of how much relief materials were sent and distributed on a day from the center to the district, local level and ward can be seen. The authority has said that the government has taken action against the spread of misinformation using old and AI-generated videos on social media during the disaster. According to the authority, 173 posts circulated on social media were reported as misinformation, out of which 83 have been removed. <\/p>\n
