. US President Donald Trump has said that he has not immediately decided whether to endorse Vice President J. D. Vance in the 2028 presidential election. <\/p>\n
Speaking to reporters before boarding Air Force One in Shannon, Ireland, Trump was asked if he would be willing to endorse Vance for the 2028 presidential race. In response, Trump said, “It’s too early to make a decision on that right now.” “<\/p>\n
praised Vance, saying he had a lot of capable leaders. “I think he’s excellent. We have a lot of great people. We have what they call the “deep bench,” Trump said. When asked more about the potential candidates who could compete with Vance, Trump said all the potential candidates were good. “I think they’re all very good. J. D. is excellent and he’s done a great job,” he said. <\/p>\n
Earlier in August, The Washington Post reported that Trump had made a relatively clear statement about Vance’s possible candidacy in a private meeting with donors in the Oval Office. At the meeting, Trump said, “Ultimately, we have to elect Jedi,” the paper reported, citing sources. <\/p>\n
However, Trump’s advisers said at the time that he had not finalized Vance as the president’s successor. Trump was also reportedly evaluating Secretary of State Marco Rubio as a possible successor along with Vance. <\/p>\n
During internal conversations, Trump drew comparisons between Vance and Rubio, repeatedly questioning his aides and informally acknowledging their support among staffers during his travels to Marine One. <\/p>\n
In August, a key Trump adviser said that the president had privately concluded that Vance would take over the leadership of the MAGA movement. But some Republican Party leaders said it was too early to draw a conclusion on a successor. <\/p>\n
