Kathmandu. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha inspected the Kulekhani Hydropower Project dam in Makwanpur. <\/p>\n
Minister Shrestha had reached the Kulekhani Dam on Saturday to take stock of the situation of the dam, which crossed the danger level due to heavy rains of September 8-12. Minister Shrestha was briefed by the Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha and NEA officials about the situation. Minister Shrestha said that the Kulekhani dam is safe and the situation is normal. He said that high vigil is being maintained at the dam during heavy rains and all strategies have been adopted. <\/p>\n
“The water level at the Kulekhani dam had also reached the alert level after the incessant rains a few days ago damaged various hydropower projects and transmission structures in the country, raising concerns about possible risks. It also put some pressure on the management of power supply. It also had an impact on the Kulekhani Hydropower Station, which is the backup of the Nepal’s electricity system,” he said. <\/p>\n
Dirghayu Shrestha, executive director of the Nepal Electricity Authority, said that the Kulekhani is the backbone of the power system. It also plays an important role in the picking of the system, he said, “The point of view of the system has contributed a lot.” MD Shrestha said that the condition of the dam is normal. <\/p>\n
