Nepali Congress youth leader Dr. Santosh Upadhyay has filed his candidacy for the post of General Secretary to strengthen the participation and leadership of the new generation in the party. <\/p>\n Unveiling his views on the sidelines of the party’s 15th General Convention, he stressed the need to provide opportunity to youths on the basis of capacity, contribution and public relations. According to him, the new generation is not only expecting leadership in the NC but also new thinking, working style, accountability and timely decision-making ability. He said that the party should be made more dynamic and people-oriented by assimilating the changing public sentiment and the expectations of the youth. Upadhyay said that although there are many youths in the party with capacity, experience, political culture and deep understanding of the organization, they have not been given adequate opportunities and responsibilities. He stressed on the need to develop a political culture that gives opportunities on the basis of merit, contribution and public relations rather than on the basis of praise or personal reach of the leaders. <\/p>\n “The Congress is not a party of corpses and slaves, but this sentiment should be reflected in practice as well,” he said, adding that a political culture should be created within the party to give equal opportunities to the youth who can question, have different opinions and work independently.”I want to be the voice of the generation that should be given opportunities on the basis of their ability and contribution without being flattered by any person,” he said. <\/p>\n He said his main resolution was “honouring ability, appreciating contributions and justice for opportunity”. <\/p>\n Upadhyay has made public the details of his leadership journey started from Achham and has worked in medical, social service, organization, communication, sports and international fields. <\/p>\n Upadhyay has said that he has been associated with the Nepali Congress and the Nepal Student Union for about 17 years. He said that he has worked as a regional representative in the central committee of the Nepal Student Union, the leadership of the NSU IOM, the coordination of the publicity committee and the general convention of the Nepali Congress. <\/p>\n He presented it as an experience of working within the organization for a long time, not by looking at it from the outside. <\/p>\n He stressed that the role of the new generation should be increased in the upcoming general convention of the Congress. He said that the party would become more effective if it moves forward by combining the energy, capacity and creativity of the new generation with the experience and contribution of the old generation. He has also worked in the media sector including Public Dialogue and Kantipur TV. On the sports management side, he is working as the Executive Director and Co-Owner of the Nepal Volleyball League. He has also made public the information that he has led the conference with about <\/p>\n 400 delegates from 30 countries at the international level and has held responsibilities in various international organizations. <\/p>\n He has cited his experience in the medical field, youth energy, organizational background, social relations and international experience as the foundation of his leadership journey. Upadhyay said that the new generation should be established as an important part of the present leadership and not just the future power in the future journey of the party. He further said that the NC would be active in the campaign of connecting with the people by ensuring significant participation of youth leaders and candidates in the upcoming local elections. <\/p>\n “The new generation is not only the future of the Congress, but also the present leadership of the Congress,” he said. <\/p>\n According to him, the upcoming general convention is also an opportunity to discuss the criteria of capacity, contribution and opportunity within the party along with the selection of the leadership.
