Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Vice-President Chintamani Sapkota has announced her candidacy for the post of central member (Europe region) in the 15th General Convention of the Nepali Congress.<\/p>\n Sapkota, who is also the founding president of Nepali Janasamparka Samiti, Spain and general secretary of Janasamparka Samiti’s global network, has filed his candidacy with the general convention with the NC’s policy formulation and development process. Stressing on the need of putting to an end the trend of viewing millions of Nepalis living abroad only as a medium to send remittances, he said the NRNs should be accepted as equal partners of national development with knowledge, skills, capital and technology. Sapkota, through his political statement, has drawn the attention of the government and the central leadership of the Nepali Congress and put forward a 6-point main demand and agenda. They have demanded that the NRA citizenship should be implemented in practice with full rights and ease as provided in the constitution, dual citizenship or continuity of citizenship should be legally guaranteed and all Nepali citizens living abroad should be allowed to vote in the upcoming elections as per the order of the Supreme Court. He also stressed on the establishment of a separate one-stop service center to attract NRNA investment, simplifying the process related to bank account, share market and capital profit return as well as full security of ownership, purchase and sale and transfer of ancestral and acquired property in Nepal. He also stressed on the formation of a national Diaspora Knowledge and Skills Fund to bring the knowledge, technology and skills of Nepalis living abroad in Nepal’s education, health, infrastructure and technology sector and to make the social security fund more effective for the migrant workers. He also demanded that Nepali embassies abroad should be equipped with resources to make labor problems, rescue, legal aid and consular services prompt and transparent.
