Kathmandu. Nepali Congress leader Gorakh Bahadur Bista ‘Anand’ has announced his candidacy for the post of central member. <\/p>\n
Bista, who has been at the forefront for more than three decades in the democratic movement, organizational strengthening, social service and people’s livelihood, announced his candidacy for the central level with the main resolve to make the party dynamic, accountable and result-oriented as per the needs of the new era and the new generation. Bista said that he was not in the field for any personal position, prestige or ambition but to contribute to the central policy-making level by being a true servant of the people and party cadres. “We are determined to make the party fully united, disciplined and disciplined by lifting it above factionalism and internal tussle,” he said. He also pledged to connect the knowledge, skills and capital earned by millions of Nepalis living abroad for nation building and to make the Nepali Public Relations Committees abroad more effective, systematic and dignified. <\/p>\n
‘I will always be active in making the Congress strong, policy clarity and a center of hope for the younger generation. I am always committed to the issues of technology-friendly party, good governance, zero tolerance against corruption, employment, entrepreneurship, economic transformation, inclusive and united Congress. So, I have full faith that you will make me victorious as the central member,” he said. <\/p>\n
“The Nepali Congress is not only a means to win the elections but also the main driver of the social and economic transformation of the country,” Bista said, adding that he has his claim in his central committee to make the party modern, transparent and trustworthy of the general public.<\/p>\n
Bista was elected as a general convention delegate from Kailali-4 with the highest and most popular votes. He won a landslide victory by securing 560 votes out of the total 690 votes cast. <\/p>\n
Bista had high political consciousness since his student life.<\/p>\n
Bista studied in Dehradun, India during the people’s movement of 2046. During this time, he went to New Delhi from Dehradun and actively participated in the demonstrations organized demanding multiparty democracy in Nepal. <\/p>\n
After that, he returned to Nepal and started studying at Shankar Dev Campus in Kathmandu. In 1998, he went to America for higher education. Even while living in America, he continued to support the country’s democratic movement. <\/p>\n
In 1999, he founded the Nepalese Democratic Youth Council in New York and served as the founding coordinator. In 2002, he led a massive rally in front of the United Nations building against the autocratic monarchy and in favor of democracy. <\/p>\n
2062. The then Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala had given him the responsibility of forming the Nepali Janasamparka Samiti, appreciating Bista’s role in creating international attention by organizing massive demonstrations in various cities of America during the people’s movement of 63. <\/p>\n
Bista, who became the founding coordinator of the Public Relations Committee America in 2005, was elected president of the America Committee for two terms, in 2008 and 2014, unopposed and with an overwhelming vote. Under his leadership, 26 chapters were formally expanded across the United States. Bista, who was a member of the Mahasamiti continuously from the 11th to the 14th General Convention, was nominated as the central member invited by the then President Sher Bahadur Deuba after the 13th General Convention. He is the first person from outside the country to be nominated to the central committee of the Nepali Congress. Bista has a glamorous social image along with politics. His door is always open for Nepalis who reach America. From arranging accommodation to thousands of students, providing employment to the sick, sending the dead body of a Nepali to Nepal or performing the last rites, he has selflessly assisted. <\/p>\n
During the COVID-19 pandemic, he was active in delivering masks, sanitizers, and food to the sick door-to-door in New York. In recognition of his unparalleled social work, the then US President Joe Biden honored him with ‘Outstanding Social Service’, while the then Mayor of New York paid tribute to him at his residence. <\/p>\n
Bista has been at the forefront even during various disasters in Nepal. He collected Rs 13.5 crore from the United States of America during the COVID-19 pandemic and deposited it in the relief fund of the Nepali Congress. Immediately after the devastating earthquake of 2072, he reached Nepal and constructed temporary tents, distributed tarpaulins and food grains and reconstructed the school building in Gagalphedi, Kathmandu. <\/p>\n
Apart from this, he has provided financial and material support to the flood victims of Darchula, the storm and cold wave victims of the Terai, and the reconstruction of more than two and a half dozen dilapidated school buildings across the country.
