Acting on a tip-off, a police team from the District Police Office, Sunsari arrested two persons in possession of marijuana while a huge quantity of marijuana was being smuggled under the cover of vegetables. Police have arrested the driver and his helper with 2,566 kilograms of marijuana concealed in a truck carrying cauliflower. During the check, 83 sacks of marijuana were recovered from the truck with registration number Na 7 Kha 1825. Inspector Hemraj Oli, Officiating Information Officer of Sunsari Police, said that the marijuana was found hidden in the middle of the cauli.

The truck going from east to west was driven by 33-year-old Raju Rai of Shahid Bhumi Rural Municipality-2 of Dhankuta. Police have arrested the driver along with 18-year-old co-driver Sadip Rai of the same place.

The police have also seized the truck after it was found that marijuana was being smuggled under the general cover of vegetable transportation. Inspector Oli said that the seized marijuana, the truck and the two arrested have been kept at the District Police Office, Sunsari for further investigation.

Police are preparing to file a case against both of them under the Narcotic Drugs Act. It is not clear where the marijuana was brought from and where the plan was to take it.

The police suspect that the marijuana produced in the hilly districts of Dhankuta and other hilly districts may have been smuggled into India by hiding it in a truck. However, police said that investigation is underway to find out the reality of the case and other people involved in the business.
