Kathmandu. The Nepal Foreign Employment Entrepreneurs Association has objected to the Malaysian government’s decision to send Nepali workers by listing only a limited number of Nepali foreign employment agencies under the ‘FWCMS’ system. <\/p>\n
Organizing a press conference, the association said that the attempt to exclude other legally licensed entrepreneurs by selecting a limited organization on the basis of personal access and unauthorized activities without a transparent standard would not be acceptable. According to the association, Malaysia is an important labor destination for Nepali workers and although employment should be opened, syndicate cannot be accepted in the name of opening Malaysia. Stating that shutting down Malaysia was not its objective, the union has demanded that a syndicate-free system should be created by keeping the opportunity for workers to go to Malaysia. <\/p>\n
If the union gives the right to send workers only to a limited number of organizations, it will have a long-term impact on Nepal’s labor migration sector. <\/p>\n
The Association has said that it is related to the regulatory authority of the state to create a situation to select only a limited number of foreign employment entrepreneurs out of the 1,200 foreign employment entrepreneurs licensed by the Government of Nepal through the foreign private system. <\/p>\n
The union has expressed concern that such practice of starting from Malaysia may be repeated in other labor destinations in the future. <\/p>\n
Stating that problems have been seen due to limited systems and monopolies in medical, biometric, visa and other processes implemented in different countries in the past, the association said that lessons should be learned from this. The union claims that if there is a provision to send workers under the control of a limited organization, competition will decrease, costs will increase, transparency will be weakened and informal money collection will increase. The union has said that this will ultimately have a direct impact on Nepali workers. <\/p>\n
The association has also demanded an investigation into some of the financial transactions that were said to have taken place for the purpose of listing in the FWCMS. <\/p>\n
The association has said that the association will not decide whether the information related to these transactions is true or false and the concerned body should make the truth public after conducting necessary investigations. <\/p>\n
The association has stressed the need to make the foreign employment sector syndicate-free and competitive and has raised the question before the stakeholders whether to save Nepal’s foreign employment or save syndicates. <\/p>\n
Dick Bahadur (Kumar), president of the association, said that even if Malaysia is necessary, there is no need for syndicates, and even if an open labor market is necessary, monopoly is not acceptable. According to him, the association is of the view that even if foreign employment is necessary, no private system or group should be established above the laws and regulations of the state. President Dick Bahadur said that if such practice is not stopped, a similar system could be repeated in other labor destinations in the future. He said that this issue is not only related to Nepal Foreign Employment Entrepreneurs Association but also to the future of Nepal’s labor migration and the rights of the state. The union has also urged all sides concerned to unite against syndicate and stand up for workers’ rights, open labour market and laws of Nepal. <\/p>\n
