Kathmandu. Chairman of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee (United) Bodh Narayan Shrestha has said that the members of the committee should be given adequate study time to make the hearing of the proposed ambassador effective. <\/p>\n
In the meeting of the committee held on Tuesday, he said that effective questions can be made only after studying the candidate’s resume, past performance, the situation of the country concerned and Nepal’s priorities there. According to him, the preparation of both the lawmakers and the candidates answering the questions in the hearing should be equally effective. <\/p>\n
“We cannot design a question of that level without studying. Therefore, we need time to study,” he said, “It will be difficult for us without two or three days.” Shrestha said that in the hearing of the proposed ambassadors for different countries, different issues should be raised on the basis of the situation of the country and Nepal’s relations rather than the same type of questions. He said that since the responsibilities and challenges of the proposed ambassador to countries like India, Israel and Malaysia are different, the qualifications and experience of the candidates should also be evaluated to how appropriate the candidates are for the respective countries. <\/p>\n
He said that the lawmakers should prepare questions based on the background of the candidate, the political and economic situation of the country concerned and the responsibilities of the ambassador rather than asking the questions of their choice. He said that parliamentary hearings should not be carried out only as a formality process. He said that the process should be made more constructive and creative while maintaining the dignity of the hearing. Shrestha also said that adequate time should be given to study the complaints received in the committee. According to him, while some of the complaints seem to be of general nature and without sufficient evidence, some issues need further study and investigation. <\/p>\n
“We should also study the complaints seriously. Not all complaints are of the same nature,” he said. He said that the committee should come to a conclusion only after further study and investigation of the complaints. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
