The Election Commission has decided to make necessary technical and institutional preparations for the implementation of the internet voting system in Nepal. According to the Election Commission, Chief Election Commissioner Man Bahadur Karki has said that the government will move forward in the direction of implementing the internet voting system in Nepal. <\/p>\n<p> He stressed on the need of technical preparation, institutional capacity development and strengthening cyber security for the same. He said that along with technical preparation, institutional capacity development, cyber security and effective coordination between the concerned government agencies are necessary for the implementation of the internet voting system. <\/p>\n<p> Experts from Smartech and Inspiring Lab gave presentations on the technical structure of Internet Voting Technology, system operation, cybersecurity, voter verification and international practices.<\/p>\n<p>Ssmartek also demonstrated the live technical demonstration of the Internet Voting System. <\/p>\n<p> The demonstration showed the various steps from voter verification to voting, secure management of votes and system operation. Experts from Smartech participated from the Netherlands, Estonia, Bosnia, Panama and the United Kingdom. <\/p>\n<p> Sanjay Khanal, a representative of Inspiring Lab, gave a presentation on Internet Voting Technology Architecture. On the occasion, Under-Secretary of the Election Commission Anup Neupane informed about the existing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) system, infrastructure, manpower and technological strengthening required in the coming days. <\/p>\n<p>Election Commissioner Dr. Prof. Rajiv Subba said that skill mapping of the knowledge, skills, human resources and technical capacity related to ICT available not only in the Commission but also in various agencies of the Government of Nepal is necessary for the implementation of the internet voting system. According to him, since internet voting is a multidimensional and inter-agency subject, the expertise and capacity available in the field of digital identity, voter verification, data exchange, cybersecurity, system development, infrastructure and operation should be identified. <\/p>\n<p> More than <\/p>\n<p>24 ICT chiefs and representatives from the Department of National Identity and Registration, Department of Passport, Department of Immigration, Nepal Police and other government agencies participated in the program. The participants shared their experiences and suggestions on digital identity and authentication, system interconnectedness, data exchange, cybersecurity, data protection and institutional technical capacity. <\/p>\n<p> According to the Commission, the interaction has laid the foundation for the necessary coordination and interconnectedness between various government information systems and technical capabilities for the development and implementation of Internet voting systems in the future. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kathmandu.
