Kathmandu. Former vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission, Prof Dr Govinda Raj Pokharel, who has filed his candidacy for the post of central member under the open category in the 15th general convention of the Nepali Congress, has said that he has filed his candidacy to contribute to the improvement of the party’s economic and development policy. <\/p>\n
Talking to Nepal News Bank, Pokharel said that he wanted to play a role in improving the economic and development policy of the NC by holding discussion and coordination with the stakeholders. <\/p>\n
“I have filed my candidacy for the central committee under the open category with the hope that I can contribute to some improvements in our policy by discussing and coordinating with all the stakeholders on the economic policy and development policy of the Nepali Congress,” he said. <\/p>\n
He said that if elected as the central member, he aims to make the economic agenda of the Congress more clear and systematic by organizing the ‘Subarna Shumsher Economic Series’ in the name of Subarna Shumsher. Pokharel said that the government should give priority to creating employment opportunities for youths in the country, creating an environment where youths can acquire skills demanded by the market, minimizing the loss of life and property due to disaster and finding ways to replace import. Stressing on the need for Nepal to earn foreign currency by increasing the export of goods and services, he stressed the need to build export-oriented economy by utilizing the available resources and means in the country. <\/p>\n
“No country can become rich without exporting. By using the available resources and resources, whether it is services or goods, we should be able to earn foreign exchange here tomorrow,” he said. <\/p>\n
He said that investment is the main theme for Nepal’s economic development. He said that there is a need to bring investment in the country and improve the living standard of the citizens, to make the human resources efficient and productive through education and health, and to increase the government’s revenue. Pokharel said that along with the changing technology, the means and means of economic development of the Congress should also be changed. He said that with the use of information technology and artificial intelligence (AI), foreign currency can be earned by exporting software and other digital services while staying in Nepal.<\/p>\n
He also said that the use of electric vehicles should be increased to reduce the import of petroleum products along with the export of electricity.
