Kathmandu. Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is going to organize the Kathmandu Film Festival on November 13, 14 and 15. <\/p>\n
Acting Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Sunita Dangol said the festival aims to promote the Nepali film industry, honour local artists and promote the art, culture and heritages of the country in the international arena.<\/p>\n
She said, “Kathmandu Metropolitan City is organizing a film festival on November 13, 14 and 15. We are organizing programs for three days in different places of Kathmandu. Speaking at a program organized to inform about the Kathmandu Film Festival, Dangol said that different programs will be organized in different places of Kathmandu for three days. <\/p>\n
On the first day of the festival, there will be an open-air screening, heritage trekking and cultural performances of Kathmandu. She said that the movie is being screened in the open space with the aim of reaching the community and locality, changing the belief that one should always go to the hall to watch the movie. She recalled that in the past also, the metropolis had screened the film by visiting different localities.<\/p>\n
The second day of the festival will be dedicated to the Nepali film industry. On this day, old and new artists will be honored and encouraged to celebrate the work of people who have contributed to the Nepali film and creative industry. <\/p>\n
On the third day, there will be a visit to the Buddhist area, a thank you program and a movie screening, she said. Dangol described Kathmandu as the capital of the country as well as an important center of creative activities and filmmaking. He said that although the shooting of Nepali movies takes place in different parts of the country, most of the production work is done in Kathmandu. Referring to Kathmandu as UNESCO Creative City of Film, she said that film should be taken as an effective medium to present the city’s art, culture, heritage, language, literature, music, food and unique identity to the world. According to her, temples, Ranipokhari, Khula Manch, Bhatbhateni, Pashupatinath, Bouddha, Swayambhu and Tinkune among other places in Kathmandu have their own historical and cultural stories. She clarified that the metropolis has given priority to the film festival as these stories can be conveyed to the world through films. Stating that the festival will not be limited to Kathmandu, Dangol said that the film has been selected incorporating the culture and stories of different regions of the country.<\/p>\n
“My Culture, My Heritage” is aimed at promoting the unique stories, art and culture of the country. <\/p>\n
The festival will give priority to the participation of local artists, traditional musicians, dancers and the community. She said that local food and cultural activities will also be promoted. <\/p>\n
Dangol acknowledged that the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) still has a lot of work to do for the development of the creative industry and efforts are on to connect the Nepali film industry with the international film industry. Master classes, workshops and other educational programs will also be conducted targeting the students and youths who want to pursue a career in film industry.<\/p>\n
The program will also include the screening and interaction program of the movie ‘Elephant in the Fog’, which has contributed to the international recognition of the Nepali film industry by participating in the Cannes Film Festival. Dangol said that it is expected that students and youths interested in filmmaking will get experience sharing and inspiration. <\/p>\n
She urged the media to help the local community, artists and all sides related to the film industry to make the festival a success. <\/p>\n
