Kathmandu. The flood in the Budhigandaki River in Gorkha has also been found mixed with the water. High alert has been urged till Sunday evening in the banks of Budhigandaki, Trishuli and Narayani rivers as the water level in the river has been swept away by the floods. <\/p>\n
According to Binod Parajuli, senior hydrologist at the Meteorological Department, the water level in the river reached 8.5 meters as of 8.45 this morning.<\/p>\n
He said that further data is not available as the flood swept away the water measurement centre and bridge. <\/p>\n
He said, “The center sent the data till the flood reached 9.5 meters and 8.5 meters at around 8.45 pm and after that the flood washed away the bridge along with our center. However, according to the data obtained from the gauge reader, the flood has reached up to two meters above the bridge. According to the information received from the gauge reader, the flood level reached about 1 to 2 meters above the bridge. Parajuli said that this shows that there is a great risk in the area around the river. <\/p>\n
Parajuli said that the area up to Benighat has been put at very high risk by assessing the impact of the flood on the Trishuli River. The area around the confluence of Budhigandaki and Trishuli rivers is at high risk. <\/p>\n
According to him, the water level of the Trishuli river is expected to increase by about three meters due to the flood. He said that although the water level of the Trishuli river is very low at present, there is little possibility of the water level reaching the danger level immediately, but the risk of river erosion remains. <\/p>\n
The area up to Muglin has been categorised as high risk and the area below Muglin as medium risk. According to Parajuli, the water level of the river in Devghat is currently around four meters. It is estimated that the water level in Devghat may rise by another 2.5 meters. According to this, the water level in Devghat can reach about 6.5 to 7 meters, he said. Although it is estimated to be below the warning level, special alertness is necessary in the river banks of Chitwan and Nawalparasi as the water level will rise significantly, he said. Giving information about the nature of the flood, Parajuli said that in the video footage, the mudslides were seen flowing along with the water. He said that further study is being done to find out the exact cause of the flood as the mudslides have also mixed with the high flow. <\/p>\n
