Kathmandu. On the occasion of Dashain, Dr. Mitra Pariyar has called for an end to caste discrimination, untouchability and social inequality. <\/p>\n
In a press conference held in the capital on Wednesday, Nagara Bajashihat Tail demonstrated and satirized the caste discrimination. <\/p>\n
Pariyar has urged the government to remove various social and religious evils through the ‘Puchhar Sammelan’. In the conference, issues have been raised to end caste-based discrimination during festivals including Dashain, to respect the people of the Damai community who do not insult the people who do not worship the Shakti Peeths during Dashain, and to ensure that Hindus of all castes are allowed to enter temples. <\/p>\n
Senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi argued that although the constitution has guaranteed maximum action against those involved in caste-based discrimination, it has not been fully implemented. Dalit activist and leader Dalmardan Kami said that the Dalit community is suffering more due to the distortions in religious rituals and culture even though the country is secular. On the occasion, campaigner Kamala Hemchuri stressed on the need to end the tradition of begging for a share and giving a tail and to end caste-based discrimination by reforming religion and culture. Mangal Singh Praja, a campaigner, said that cultural and caste discrimination has defamed Hinduism and religious conversions have increased. <\/p>\n
