Six Indian tourists, including two women, have gone missing due to heavy snowfall while returning to Phoksundo Lake from Dho in Dolpo Buddha Rural Municipality-8 of Dolpa.

They have been stuck in the snow at Numala Pass and Wagla Pass area between She-Phoksundo Rural Municipality-4 and 8.

Tourists have been facing problems due to snowfall in the Himalayan region due to the impact of cyclone ‘Arnab’, which developed in the Bay of Bengal. According to local guides, the locals had warned the tourists that it would be difficult to cross the area due to snowfall. However, it has been reported that they were trapped in the snow after ignoring the advice of the locals.

According to Junu Hamal, Chief District Officer of Dolpa, the tourists got stuck in the snow while returning to Phoksundo Lake from Dho. She said that despite the locals warning them that it would be difficult to cross the mountain, they went towards there and after that they went out of contact. According to Dhawa Samduk Gurung, chairperson of She-Phoksundo Rural Municipality, there is no mobile phone network in these passes, which lie between ward number 4 and 8. He said that it is difficult to get information about the condition of tourists as there is no communication. They were coming from Dho to Phoksundo Lake. A team of Nepal Army has also been deployed for their search and rescue, said Chief District Officer Hamal.

Coordination is being made with the concerned authorities to prepare for the search and rescue by helicopter after the rescue was challenged due to adverse weather.
