Kathmandu. Not only the excitement of cricket at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, but the mascots of all the eight teams have also become the center of attraction of the spectators. <\/p>\n

On the field, spectators not only “applaud” the players’ strikes and performances, but also enjoy watching the mascots moving in and out of the field. <\/p>\n

The display of players, fours and sixes and hooting by the fans along with mascots made in the form of animals and mythological characters have made the atmosphere of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) more enthusiastic. <\/p>\n

All the eight franchises participating in the NPL have chosen a mascot that reflects the geographical, cultural and natural identity of their region. <\/p>\n

These mascots are not only a team identity, but also a means of connecting with fans and adding entertainment to the field. <\/p>\n

Some have made the Himalayan yak their symbol, while some have presented the one-horned rhinoceros, tiger, elephant and lion as muskets. Similarly, the mythological character Garuda and the Yeti of Himalayan folklore have also made a separate identity in the NPL. <\/p>\n

These mascots are also dancing to the rhythm of songs on the cricket field, making the audience laugh and having fun with the fans. <\/p>\n

During the tense moments of the game, their activities have entertained the spectators and made the atmosphere of the ground more lively. Muscat has become another attraction especially for the spectators who come to watch the game with children and families. <\/p>\n

Eight teams, eight different mascots <\/p>\n

1. Janakpur Bolts ‘Bauwa’ (White Elephant)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The mascot of Janakpur Bolts is a white elephant, which has been named ‘Bauwa’. In the Maithili language, the word Bauwa is used to address the son with love. It represents the language, culture, and local identity of Madhesh. <\/p>\n

2. Kathmandu Gorkhas ‘Dada’ (Yeti)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Muscat of Kathmandu Gorkhas is a yeti described in Himalayan folklore. It is named ‘Dada’, which means brother. It is presented as a symbol of patron and guide. <\/p>\n

3. Chitwan Rhinos \u2013 ‘Mr. Rhinoceros’<\/strong><\/p>\n

The mascot of Chitwan Rhinos is a one-horned rhinoceros. Named ‘Mr. Rhinoceros’, this muscat is associated with the main wildlife of Chitwan National Park and the natural identity of Chitwan. <\/p>\n

4. Far-Western Royals \u2013 ‘Baddo’ (Tiger)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Muscat Tiger of the Far-Western Royals is a tiger. Its name is ‘Badau’, which is related to the Doteli language. The tiger reflects the natural heritage, regional pride and identity of the Far West. <\/p>\n

5. Biratnagar Kings \u2013 ‘Eastern Kings’ (Arna)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The mascot of the Biratnagar Kings is Arna or wild buffalo. Named ‘Eastern King’, this mascot represents the identity of eastern Nepal and the natural heritage of the Koshi region. It is presented as a symbol of strength and endurance. <\/p>\n

6. Karnali Yaks \u2013 ‘Mr. Yak’<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Muscat of Karnali Yaks is a yak found in the Himalayan region. Named ‘Mr. Yak’, it represents the ability, strength, and endurance to adapt to difficult geographical and weather conditions. <\/p>\n

7. Pokhara Avengers \u2013 ‘Garuda’ <\/strong><\/p>\n

The mascot of the Pokhara Avengers is the mythological character Garuda. The Garuda, which is described as the vehicle of Lord Vishnu in Hindu scriptures, is considered as a symbol of strength, courage and intensity. This has given the team a distinct cultural identity. <\/p>\n

8. Lumbini Lions \u2013 ‘The Lion King’ (Singh)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The mascot of Lumbini Lions is a lion. Named ‘Singh Raja’, it carries the symbolic meaning of courage, strength and leadership. There is also a direct connection between the name of the team and the mascot. <\/p>\n

Unlike the teams, the common mascot of the NPL ‘Jeet’ Although the eight franchise teams have their own mascots, the common mascot of the NPL is the snow leopard. It is called ‘Jeet’. In the Nepali language, victory means victory. It represents the entire tournament. <\/p>\n

In this way, all the eight mascots of the NPL have tried to connect Nepal’s geographical diversity, wildlife, language, culture and mythological traditions with cricket. While the players are competing for the title on the field, these mascots are entertaining the spectators and also reflecting the identity of their region. <\/p>\n
