Kathmandu. CPN-UML Secretary Sherdhan Rai has said that in the changing world, mutual trust rebuilding, dialogue and international cooperation should be given priority. <\/p>\n
Addressing the 13th General Assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties in Seoul, South Korea, Rai said dialogue rather than conflict and collaboration rather than division were necessary to resolve the challenges seen in the world. Stating that Nepal’<\/p>\n
s foreign policy is based on the principle of ‘friendship with all, enmity with none’, he stressed that the independence and sovereignty of all nations should be respected. He said that Nepal was of the view that solutions to international problems should be sought through dialogue and dialogue. <\/p>\n
Stating that Nepal is situated between two big neighboring countries like India and China, Rai said that Nepal has been giving importance to friendly relations with both countries. He was of the view that Nepal’s geographical location should be a means of uniting the countries rather than dividing them. Rai said that international relations should directly benefit the lives of the common people. He said that employment for youths, opportunities for entrepreneurs, education and technology for students and security and respect for workers are necessary. Stating that there is a lot of potential in the field of hydropower and clean energy in Nepal, he said that international investment and technology would be welcomed to convert it into an economic opportunity. Appreciating the contribution of millions of Nepali workers working abroad, he stressed the need to ensure their rights, security and dignity. During the address, Rai drew the attention of the international community to the risk Nepal is facing due to climate change and its impact. Stating that the recent devastating floods in different parts of the country including the Bhotekoshi area have caused a huge loss of life and property, he said the affected families have lost their houses, livelihood bases and sense of security. According to him, although Nepal’s contribution to global greenhouse gas emission is minimal, the Nepali people are facing serious consequences due to the climate change. Stating that countries and communities bearing the most losses should be ended, he stressed the need for practical cooperation, technology, investment and international cooperation along with sympathy to the affected countries. Stating that climate change was not only a problem of a single country but a common responsibility of the world community, Rai stressed the need for collective efforts to minimize its impact. <\/p>\n
He also said that there is a need for continuity of dialogue between countries and parties with different political views and backgrounds. He urged the international community to give priority to dialogue instead of confrontation, cooperation instead of division and peace instead of conflict. <\/p>\n
Rai said that although the language, culture and nationality of the citizens of different countries of the world are different, their basic aspirations are the same. He said that every parent wants to see their children safe, the youth want to be in search of opportunities and the family expects a peaceful and prosperous future.<\/p>\n
“Our flags may be different and the language we speak may be different, but our humanity is the same. We have the same world and it is common to all of us,” he said. <\/p>\n
Stressing on the need for collective efforts by all to make the world more secure and livable for future generations, Rai expressed the view that history should remember mutual trust, preserved peace and a collectively built future rather than the differences of division. <\/p>\n
