Kathmandu. On the occasion of Kartik Krishna Aunsi, the second biggest festival of Nepalis, Laxmi Puja is being celebrated by worshiping Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. <\/p>\n
On the day of Lakshmi Puja, there is a tradition of cleaning the house, courtyard and shops and worshiping Lakshmi with Deepawali. In the evening, lamps are lit from the main door of the house to the puja room. It is also customary to make rangoli and Lakshmi’s steps in the main door and courtyard with the belief that Lakshmi enters the house. <\/p>\n
On this day, Lakshmi, Ganesh and Saraswati are worshiped and wished for wealth, happiness, peace, and prosperity. There is a tradition of worshiping the wealth, jewelry and valuables of the house. <\/p>\n
On the occasion of Lakshmi Puja, dishes like selroti, arsa, and anarsa are made in every house. There is also a tradition of playing Bhailo in every house by forming groups of children and youths in the evening. The tradition of playing Bhailo by saying ‘Bhailini Aayau Aangan, Gunyu Cholo Magna, Hey Aunsi ko Baro, Gai Tiharo Bhailo’ adds to the charm of Tihar from the village to the city market. <\/p>\n
Similarly, banana stems are used to decorate the main door of the house, light lamps, burst firecrackers, and light up the courtyard with different colored lamps and flowers. <\/p>\n
There is a religious belief that on the night of Lakshmi Puja, Goddess Lakshmi comes to earth and blesses happiness, peace, and prosperity in every house. With this belief, it is customary to make the steps of Lakshmi from the entrance of the house to the inner room. <\/p>\n
This special day of Tihar is believed to strengthen religious faith, family reunions, cultural traditions and mutual harmony.
