Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: A night bus service has been launched in Kathmandu Valley on the occasion of New Year. Initiating the service, Acting Mayor of KMC Sunita Dangol expressed her commitment to continue and expand the service. <\/p>\n
Dangol said that the service, which has been started with two routes for now, will be gradually expanded to other routes as well. He said that there is a demand for night service in Ring Road and other areas as well. Preparations are underway to start the bus service from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm for the workers going to work early in the morning and students going to college at 6 am, said acting chief Dangol. Budhanilkantha and Chandragiri municipalities have already committed to provide space for charging stations. She said that the morning service will also be effective after the charging station is arranged. <\/p>\n
Stating that ‘profit-oriented’ thinking was the main reason behind the failure of night bus service in the past, Dangol said that the effectiveness of the night bus service would be emphasized this time. She stressed that all municipalities in the Kathmandu Valley should take ownership and forge financial partnership to make this service sustainable. She said that private organizations associated with the night economy and tourism sector will also be involved in this. She also informed that there is a plan to set up a separate fund to make the service sustainable. <\/p>\n
Dangol said that the journey has been started with the goal of making the entire Kathmandu Valley more dynamic and safe through systematic, safe and environment-friendly transportation. The bus service has been in operation till 11:00 pm on the main routes of Kathmandu Valley since April 15, 2083. The service has been launched with the objective of providing safe and reliable transportation service to businessmen, hospital travellers, domestic and foreign tourists and the general public. <\/p>\n
In the first phase, electric bus service will be operated from Lagankhel to Budhanilkantha, Nagdhunga (Thankot Check Post) to Airport route. The service will be expanded to Ring Road and Bhaktapur areas gradually based on the demand. In order to make the night travel safe and dignified, each bus will have one city police uniform from the Kathmandu Metropolitan City. The common transport will bear the operating expenses up to the end of 2083 BS. After that, it has been agreed that if the ticket income is not able to meet the expenses, the concerned municipalities will allocate the budget and make the reimbursement.
