Kathmandu. Prime Minister Balen Shah has once again drawn attention to the safety and long-term management of the people living on the banks of the river in the Kathmandu Valley. Making his views public through the social media Facebook, he said that due to the floods that occur every year, thousands of people have to flee their property only to save their lives. <\/p>\n
Prime Minister Shah said that this problem has been a permanent challenge for years and there is a need to ensure the safe settlement of the affected citizens without putting it on hold for the coming years. He has also repeatedly raised his voice on this issue. According to him, it would be an irresponsible step to allow the citizens to stay in the risky places and wait for the accident to happen, adding that it is the right of the citizens to manage them in a safe place. He also indicated that it would not be appropriate to make such a situation a matter of political gain and votes. <\/p>\n
Prime Minister Shah said that the unmanaged settlements on the banks of rivers and streams have also obstructed the construction of the drainage system, due to which the rivers of the valley are getting polluted. To solve this problem, preparations are being made to relocate the vulnerable settlements in Thapathali, Gairigaun and Manohara areas to safer places by adopting a humanitarian approach. <\/p>\n
He said that the government is committed to the management of squatters and the control of encroachment of government land, the commitments made by him since his last political journey. In this context, a plan has also been put forward to identify the genuine squatters across the country and distribute the land as soon as possible by completing the necessary procedures. <\/p>\n
Stating that the problem of squatters across the country and the settlements on the banks of the river in Kathmandu are different, Prime Minister Shah said that both would be resolved from different perspectives. He expressed confidence that the incumbent government would find a permanent solution to this problem which has been complicated for many years. <\/p>\n
