Genji leader Miraj Dhungana and other groups have held a press conference for the first time demanding the government to remove various taxes on petroleum products.\u00a0At a press meet organized on Wednesday, they said that the government should review the tax structure imposed on petroleum products and provide relief to the people immediately. <\/p>\n
He clarified that the campaign was not focused on any individual or political target, but on the tax structure on petroleum products (6 tax amnesty campaign). According to Genji leader Dhungana, tax has been imposed under various headings while importing petrol. According to this, there are various types of taxes including customs duty, pollution tax, green tax, infrastructure development tax, road maintenance fee and value added tax (VAT). According to Dhungana, due to the combined burden of these taxes, the price of petrol has increased drastically and now it has reached around Rs 219 per liter. <\/p>\n
He said that the impact of the increase in the price of petroleum products has been directly felt in all sectors of daily consumer goods, transport services and livelihood. According to the Dhungana Group, the increase in the price of diesel and petrol has increased the prices of public transport fares as well as food and other essential goods, which has made the common man’s life very difficult. <\/p>\n
“In a landlocked country like Nepal, the increase in the price of petroleum products will have a direct impact on the entire economy,” Dhungana said. He urged the government to immediately review the tax structure to be levied on petroleum products. They said that immediate relief could be provided by reducing or removing taxes, especially under the headings of customs duty and infrastructure development tax. <\/p>\n
