Kathmandu. Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle has said that active participation of private sector was essential to transform Nepal into a $100 billion economy. Addressing the 60th annual general meeting of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) here today, Wagle shared that the government has already decided to prepare a strategy for the protection and promotion of the private sector. <\/p>\n
According to him, the meeting of the Council of Ministers has passed the proposal of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies and has taken an important step towards the formulation of private sector-friendly policy. “We envision a $100 billion economy. It is not possible to achieve this goal without the support of the private sector,” Wagle said, adding, “The private sector has always been at the forefront of our priorities whether it is during elections or after joining the government.” \u2019<\/p>\n
Stating that it might take around seven years to meet the target, he said the role of the private sector would be crucial in economic expansion, job creation and production increment. According to him, the private sector is a major partner in the responsibility of expanding the economy and taking it to new heights. <\/p>\n
Finance Minister Wagle said that the private sector’s contribution to job creation is noteworthy and the collaboration between the government and private sector should be further strengthened. <\/p>\n
“The role of private sector is very important from employment generation to production growth and export expansion,” he said. Pledging to create a policy-level environment to encourage the private sector, he said the government would emphasize on investment-friendly environment, easy rules and process and stability. He also said that economic reform programmes would be carried out by winning the confidence of the private sector. <\/p>\n
The government aims to increase economic activities by resolving problems seen in the industry, trade and investment sectors through the ‘Private Sector Protection and Promotion Strategy’.
