Kathmandu. Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ruby Kumari Thakur, has urged the parents to educate their daughters and take care of them with respect. Addressing a two-day mass for the elimination of child marriage and dowry system organized at Chandra Nagar Rural Municipality of Sarlahi district on Sunday, President Bhandari said that she would fight against child marriage and dowry system that are deeply rooted in Madhes region until the last hour. <\/p>\n
Stressing on the need of educating daughters for social change, she said dowry and child marriage have become a stigma for the country. According to Deputy Speaker Thakur, the dowry system has played a major role in the breakdown of the family after marriage, the relationship deteriorates and the social tension increases. Stating that dowry has become a curse for both families, she stressed the need of launching a campaign at all levels to end such evil practice. <\/p>\n
She also expressed concern over the increasing trend of teenagers leaving their homes in recent times. She urged the younger generation not to take the suggestions of their parents in a wrong sense and not to take decisions in impulse. <\/p>\n
Likewise, lawmaker elected from Sarlahi Constituency No. 1 Nimita Karki Bhandari said that social evils, bad traditions and discrimination in the society could be removed only through education.
