Kathmandu. Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Kumar Thapa has urged the voters to question the lawmakers of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) who clapped in the parliament over the controversial remarks made by Prime Minister Balen Shah. Addressing a gathering of party office-bearers and people’s representatives at Lumbini province level at Manigram of Rupandehi organised by the Nepali Congress Central Policy, Research and Training Academy, leader Thapa said the remarks made by the Prime Minister were immature and apolitical, against the national interest. <\/p>\n
“The people did not send lawmakers to parliament to express their support for anti-national rhetoric, such as that our country has also encroached on other people’s borders,” he said. \u2019<\/p>\n
“It would have been worrisome and even more dangerous had the Prime Minister spoken without understanding,” Thapa said. He suggested the Prime Minister to immediately go to the parliament and withdraw his statement and apologize to the people. <\/p>\n
“It is the duty of the opposition party to support the government when it is good and to warn or force correction when it does wrong, and the NC will fulfill this responsibility,” he said. He claimed that the people would not leave Prime Minister Shah without apologizing for this. <\/p>\n
President Thapa also strongly objected to the passage of the House of Representatives Regulations-2083 by the parliament. Indicating that he would go to court if the Speaker and the ruling party did not reconsider the issue, he termed the incident as the darkest day in the parliamentary history. <\/p>\n
Speaking about the party’s internal affairs, he clarified that the party cadres should be taken into confidence and not by pleasing the leaders to contest the upcoming elections. He said that the main objective of the active membership update is to make the votes of the active members the basis of the candidate selection process. <\/p>\n
“We will conduct a survey to find out who is suitable for the post and on the basis of that we will select the candidates,” he said, “This is also the main objective of the renewal.” \u2019<\/p>\n
Stating that the convention process of the sister organizations has moved ahead in a speedy manner, Thapa said preparations were underway to hold the general convention of all the sister organizations by mid-April.
