Kathmandu. Many airlines around the world have increased the fares of aviation fuel in the international market due to the conflict in the Middle East in the last few months. However, Nepal’s domestic airlines are competing with discount schemes to attract passengers. <\/p>\n
Various airlines have announced special discount plans through their websites, mobile apps and digital platforms especially after the number of passengers decreased due to the monsoon and rainy season. <\/p>\n
Buddha Air is offering discount of Rs 1,200 on flights to Dhangadhi, Rs 1,000 to Surkhet and Nepalgunj, Rs 800 to Bhadrapur and Rs 650 to Bhairahawa. The company is also providing mileage points. <\/p>\n
Yeti Airlines and Shree Airlines are also offering similar discount schemes through their various platforms. Passengers have directly benefited from the increasing competition among airlines. <\/p>\n
Urmila Limbu, who traveled to Kathmandu from Bhadrapur, said that the discount scheme has helped her travel by providing some relief. Alok Bista of Dhangadhi also said that his expenses have decreased after getting a discount of Rs 1,200 amidst the expensive fare. Meanwhile, Buddha Air’s marketing officer Rupesh Joshi clarified that the current system is a scheme rather than a fare adjustment. <\/p>\n
“It’s not a fare adjustment, it’s just a scheme,” he said. Buddha Air’s ‘Fly Club’ (Mileage Card) members have been given a discount facility. \u201d<\/p>\n
According to Joshi, the scheme was implemented from May 1 and has been brought to run for about a month for now. He said that the exact time frame could not be fixed right now as the duration of the plan could be changed as per the need. <\/p>\n
While the increased discount scheme has helped attract passengers, the impact it will have on airlines’ finances will be clear in the coming days. There have also been unconfirmed reports of delays in the disbursement of salaries of employees in some domestic airlines.
