Kathmandu. Bird flu (H5N1) has spread in 11 districts in Nepal. According to the Department of Livestock Services, the infection that started from Morang three months ago has been confirmed in Jhapa, Sunsari, Morang, Bara, Mahottari, Chitwan, Nawalparasi, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur and Kavre. According to the Department, 569,858 chickens have been culled in the affected areas so far. Similarly, 989,313 eggs and 195,485 kilogrammes of feed were also destroyed. <\/p>\n
The Department of Livestock Services has claimed that the infection has been brought under control in Koshi Province within a month. Transportation of chickens, eggs and feed to the infected areas has been strictly prohibited and biosecurity measures have been implemented at risky farms. <\/p>\n
According to the department, the H9N2, H5N1 virus of bird flu and Newcastle disease virus have also been found in the samples currently tested at the laboratory. The farmers have been urged to adopt special precaution in the management of infected and suspected chickens and not to throw the dead chicken in the open space. <\/p>\n
The Department has urged the poultry entrepreneurs to strictly follow the biosecurity standards in the farm, control the entry of outsiders and inform the nearest livestock service agency if any unnatural chicken is found sick or dead.
