RAMECHHAP: Engineers and assistant sub-engineers working at Khandadevi Rural Municipality in Ramechhap district have resigned en masse, accusing them of being beaten up and threatened at the workplace.\u00a0With their resignation, the measuring, monitoring, plan implementation and payment process operated by the infrastructure section of the rural municipality has also been affected. <\/p>\n
A press release issued on the rural municipality’s letterpad states that unnecessary pressure, threats and insecurity on the technical employees have been increasing in the past few days from people associated with the consumer committee and other persons. The statement has been signed by 22 technical staff. <\/p>\n
According to the press release, an attempt was made to misbehave with the Chief Administrative Officer and other technical staffers on the premises of the rural municipality during the 20th village assembly convention held on June 22. <\/p>\n
Two days later, on June 11, a technical staff was abused and threatened with a manhandling inside the infrastructure section. <\/p>\n
Yugesh Kumar Yadav, chief administrative officer of the rural municipality, claimed that the technical staff were surrounded and beaten on Thursday evening. According to him, after the recent incident, the employees have started to feel very insecure. “We are facing various pressures and obstacles while working according to the rules and procedures. \u2019<\/p>\n
He said that in such an environment, it is not possible to send technical staff to the field for measurement, monitoring and inspection of the project. “It is not possible to send employees to the field in such an unsafe environment,” he said. <\/p>\n
“The constitutional and legal rights of civil servants to work in a fearless and safe environment have been violated,” the statement reads. The press release stated that the pressure on employees and physical insecurity have made serious impact on development construction work and service delivery. <\/p>\n
Stating that it was against the law to put mental pressure on the employees for fulfilling their personal interests, obstructing their work performance and causing physical insecurity, the rural municipality said it was coordinating with the local administration and security bodies to identify the culprits involved in the incident and take legal action. <\/p>\n
