Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker Gyanendra Shahi said the state should be equally accountable for its responsibilities if the provision was implemented to take stern action against the citizens violating traffic rules. Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Sunday, lawmaker Shahi clarified that his party was not opposed to taking stern legal action against those violating traffic rules. He said that both he and the people agree that the rules should be followed and those who violate should face action as per the law.

He said, “The government has now come up with a discussion that strict legal punishment will be given to those who violate the traffic rules. There is talk of making rules. The police have also sent a report. We are not protesting against this, we have to follow the rules, action should be taken, everyone is ready for that and the people are also ready. ’

He proposed that the state should also pay a fine of up to one lakh rupees for violating traffic rules. He also demanded that the state should pay Rs 100,000 fine if potholes are found on the roads within 24 hours, Rs 100,000 fine should be paid if the traffic lights are not working, Rs 50,000 should be fined if the traffic police behave rudely and Rs 50,000 should be fined for the street lights at night.

“Today, if citizens can pay a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh for violating traffic rules, I say they should pay it,” he said. But should the state be responsible or not? Whatever the state does? What I want to appeal to this government is that we have to go a little differently. The state should also be responsible, the concerned bodies should also be responsible. If the citizens are paid your fine, will the state pay the fine if it commits a crime? I’d like to make a proposal. If a person fins Rs 100,000, the state will have to pay a fine of Rs 100,000 if a pothole is found on the road within 24 hours, Rs 100,000 if the traffic light is not found on the road, Rs 50,000 if the traffic police behave rudely, Rs 50,000 if the road lights are damaged at night, and Rs 50,000 if the license is not issued within seven days of passing the trial. ’

He also demanded that the state should pay a fine of Rs 50,000 if the license is not issued within seven days of passing the trial.

Lawmaker Shahi appealed to the Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs through the parliament to make legal provisions to file case against the concerned body and the contractor company under the attempt to murder in case of road accidents.

“I would like to appeal to the law minister through the parliament to bring a law to prosecute the concerned authorities and contractors for attempting to murder if any citizen gets involved in a road accident due to potholes on the road,” he said. ’

Kathmandu.
