Kathmandu. Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle said that the provision brought during the amendment of the Money Laundering Prevention Act has been corrected and returned to the old legal system. Speaking at a meeting of the Legislation Management Committee on Wednesday, Finance Minister Wagle said that the provisions brought through the ordinance were amended after it was felt to be overreach to some extent. <\/p>\n
He said, “We felt a little overreach when we brought the ordinance. The aim was to present strongly, take complaints and empower it. But we have corrected it so that we do not have to use the complaint as a weapon to harass anyone as in the past. \u2019<\/p>\n
Stating that the complaint was misused in the past, he clarified that the amendment was made to avoid it. “The purpose is not to harass anyone,” he said. <\/p>\n
Stating that the proposed amendment is technical in nature, Finance Minister Wagle urged the government to endorse it easily. He said that discussions could be held in the coming days on amending the Act more comprehensively or bringing new laws. <\/p>\n
“For now, it’s a show of urgency. We were trying to give a message that we are serious about this issue. But the course has been corrected after it was seen that it could lead to a more fatal situation,” he said. <\/p>\n
He further said that the government was serious on the issue of money laundering and necessary works were underway to take Nepal out of the international grey list. He also stressed the need for a separate debate on controlling criminal activities. <\/p>\n
Committee president Krishna Bahadur Rokaya has proposed to pass the Money Laundering Prevention Act-2064 BS with revisions. <\/p>\n
“It should be finalized by passing it with amendments,” he said. We propose that the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2064 has been amended and passed. \u2019<\/p>\n
According to Rokaya, the final report will be prepared after discussion between the Ministry of Law, Finance and the Committee and it will be presented in the Business Advisory Committee meeting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
