Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balendra Shah held extensive discussion with representatives of the Federation of Contractors’ Association of Nepal (FCAN) on Thursday regarding the existing problems in the construction sector, promotion of construction business and development of physical infrastructures. <\/p>\n
During the meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Prime Minister Shah said that the government was positive to remove practical obstacles in the construction sector, saying the construction sector was a backbone for economic development, employment generation and infrastructure development of the country. <\/p>\n
He stressed on effective collaboration among the government, private sector and stakeholders to complete the construction work on time and to make the construction business dignified, transparent and responsible. <\/p>\n
FNCCI President Nicolesh Pandey, senior vice-president Mukesh Panta, general secretary Shiva Hari Ghimire and other office-bearers put forth the issues related to delay in payment of contracts, complications in contract management, extension of deadline, price adjustment and improvement in Public Procurement Act. <\/p>\n
Pointing out the need of policy-level and administrative facilitation to make the construction industry dynamic, the entrepreneurs also apprised the PM about the problems surfaced in the availability of construction materials and banking investment. The FNCCI has also submitted a written suggestion to the Prime Minister incorporating the necessary points for the improvement of this sector. <\/p>\n
After about an hour-long discussion, Federation General Secretary Ghimire said that the Prime Minister was found very serious and positive towards the problems in the construction sector. <\/p>\n
According to Ghimire, the Prime Minister has pledged to take necessary initiatives after conducting a special study under the leadership of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers to resolve the problems related to the sick projects and to coordinate with the Ministry of Finance for the arrangement of budget required for price adjustment. <\/p>\n
The government’s eagerness to amend the Public Procurement Act and Regulations has added new enthusiasm to the contractors and they are optimistic that the problems will be resolved.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
