Devika’s plea from Maitighar: I don’t want to die, I want justice<\/p>\n

Kathmandu. The streets of Maitighar are frequented by people throughout the day. But some come with their demands, some choose the road to raise their voice. Banners and placards with demands are often not left on the Maitighar Mandala premises. <\/p>\n
Tents have been set up to protect them from the sun. A woman is sitting in the same tent narrating her ordeal. <\/p>\n
With pain in her eyes and anger in her voice, she has come to her mother’s house for justice. She is Devika Khanal of Sundarharaicha-7, Morang. <\/p>\n
Khanal, who says that her life has changed after the accident, is now seeking justice from the streets of Kathmandu.<\/p>\n

The accident that took place on March 6, 2081 in Ramdhuni Municipality-3 of Sunsari changed the course of Devika’s life.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
According to Devika, the deceased has been identified as Suman Thapa, ward chairman of Inaruwa Municipality-6.<\/p>\n
She has accused the police of not getting the necessary medical treatment after the accident, shirking responsibility for the incident and neglecting to leave her disabled in a state of disability. <\/p>\n
She was living a normal life and now she is unable to walk. According to him, he sustained serious injuries from the waist down after the accident. According to him, he has not been able to recover completely despite repeated surgeries. <\/p>\n
In an interview with Nepal News Bank, Khanal said that although the accident itself is not under anyone’s control, the responsibility and behavior shown after the accident is important.<\/p>\n
‘Accidents can happen to anyone. Walking on the road can cause an accident. But when you make a mistake, you have to deal with it. We should take responsibility for the treatment and care of the victims,” she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
According to him, Ward Chairman Thapa came into contact for some time after the accident, but now he is away from treatment and necessary support.<\/p>\n
Sahara, only her daughter<\/p>\n
Devika’s life was not less than a struggle even before the accident. She is a single woman. The responsibilities of the house, the future of the daughter and the care of her own are now on her shoulders. <\/p>\n
She said her biggest concern was her 13 <\/p>\n
-year-old daughter’s education and future. <\/p>\n
‘I’m a single woman. I have a daughter. You’re a mother. I’m worried about how I’ll run my family if my legs don’t work,” she said. <\/p>\n
According to her, she has also become financially weak after the accident.<\/p>\n
She says she has to depend on the help of others, who has been working and supporting her family.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘I’m a working and eating person. What will happen to my family when my body is not functioning, how will I educate my daughter?” she asked.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Devika said that she did not ask for any large amount. His main demand is treatment and legal action against the guilty. <\/p>\n
According to him, after the accident, an offer of five lakh rupees was made for settlement.<\/p>\n
But she said the amount could not be compared to the loss of her life.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘My life is not five lakh rupees. If my health is good, I can earn my own money. But if the body is damaged, what will that money do?” she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She demanded that she be assured of the treatment she needs and that she be prepared to live in the future.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Devika complained that the law should be equal for the poor and the rich<\/p>\n
Devika complained that she did not get the required support even though she reached out to the police administration and various agencies for justice. According to him, after the accident, there was a problem in registering a complaint initially.<\/p>\n
According to him, the case process has moved forward only through the court’s order after the High Court reached Morang. She said that the law should be equal for all. <\/p>\n
‘The law should be the same for the poor and the rich. With money and access, people should not have to struggle to get justice and weak people should not have to struggle,” she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
According to Devika, on April 30, the two sides held discussions and reached an agreement on some issues.<\/p>\n
According to him, the agreement covers the cost of treatment, future treatment and education of his daughter. But the agreement has not been implemented, she alleged.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She said, “The agreement had agreed to pay the bill so far, take her to the hospital by April 24 and give full treatment to the hospital and educate her daughter up to class 12.” But it was not implemented. “<\/p>\n
She said she should have adequate information and consent as a victim before signing the agreement.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“I am the victim and the matter related to my life should not be decided without listening to me,” she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Devika, who lives at Maitighar, said that she has not come to fight against the state, but to seek justice from the state.<\/p>\n

According to him, Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has assured that justice will be delivered to him.<\/p>\n
She said that she is relying on it.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘I’m not here to protest. I have come to demand justice. A criminal should be investigated and the truth should be distinguished. The state should distinguish between the perpetrators and the victims,” she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She demanded that the culprits be investigated and the truth should be brought out. <\/p>\n
Devika said that she did not come to Maitighar to end her life but to seek justice. He said that despite physical pain, financial problems and mental stress, he did not give up hope of justice. <\/p>\n
‘I didn’t come to die. I have come to demand justice,” she said. She said that she is also raising her voice so that no one else should have the same situation as her. <\/p>\n
Devika is now awaiting treatment, legal process and a decision from the state. He wants to get his life back to normal after the accident. <\/p>\n
His demand is the same: full treatment, fair investigation and justice.<\/p>\n
However, there is no official response from ward chairman Suman Thapa on this issue. <\/p>\n
