Chairperson of the Indigenous Nationalities Commission,<\/strong> Thapa stressed that it is necessary to increase both knowledge production and consumption.Chairman of the Indigenous Nationalities Commission, Ram Bahadur Thapa Magar, has said that the knowledge production and consumption aspect of the indigenous nationalities is still weak. <\/p>\n Speaking at the souvenir release ceremony and felicitation distribution ceremony of Nepal <\/p>\n Indigenous Knowledge Conference 2082, Chair Thapa Magar pointed out the need of improvement in knowledge production, research and its use.\u00a0<\/p>\n He said that while studying various reports, the research materials related to indigenous nationalities and communities appear to be weak compared to other reports. <\/p>\n ‘We are really weak in knowledge, knowledge production, and consumption. When you look at a lot of the reports, when compared to others, it seems that our reports are a little bit lower,” he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n He has been a renowned geographer and planner in the past. Dr. Harka Gurung gave an example of presenting in-depth knowledge from a one-page working paper and discussed the quality of knowledge and the importance of presentation. <\/p>\n President Thapa Magar The one-page content presented by Dr. Harka Gurung has included Nepal’s political representation, status of indigenous nationalities, economic and social status, population and other issues. <\/p>\n ‘The interpretation he made from a sheet of paper data showed his level of knowledge production and knowledge consumption,’ he said. <\/p>\n published by the Federation of Indigenous Nationalities. Stating that Dr Harka Gurung’s book ‘Janjatiya Serofero’ is an important source of knowledge, he stressed the need to increase the study and use of such books. <\/p>\n ‘Good knowledge is not only produced, it must also be consumed. It will have an impact only if there is both production and consumption,” he said. <\/p>\n Chairperson Thapa Magar said that the National Foundation for the Upliftment of Indigenous Nationalities, Federation of Indigenous Nationalities and Commission on Indigenous Nationalities should be developed as complementary organizations for the promotion and protection of rights of indigenous nationalities. Stating that the structure of the FNJ is directly connected with the community as it has reached to the people’s level, he said the role of the commission would have an impact at the policy level.<\/p>\n “Federations, foundations and commissions have their own objectives. We should work accordingly and be supportive of each other,” he said. <\/p>\n Stating that suggestions were taken in coordination with the Federation of Indigenous Nationalities on the issue of constitution amendment, he said that the real problems and demands of the community should be taken to the state bodies. He also said that the suggestion that the rhino should be made the national animal is related to the experiences and sufferings of the indigenous communities.<\/p>\n Giving the example of the Kirant community narrating the problems related to the use of cow in religious rituals during his visit to Solukhumbu, he stressed the need of addressing the cultural practices and problems of the community. <\/p>\n President Thapa Magar stressed the need for restructuring of the National Academy for the Upliftment of Indigenous Nationalities.<\/p>\n He stressed that the leadership selection process should be transparent and based on the selection of competent persons to make the Academy effective. <\/p>\n “If we choose the leadership based on our people or party, then the problem starts with us.
